South Africa: Gautrain Might Recycle Energy - AllAfrica.com

THE Gautrain Management Agency says it is negotiating with Eskom on how the Gautrain rapid rail link could feed the electricity it would generate back to the national grid to assist the power utility increase its capacity. Gautrain Management Agency CEO Jack van der Merwe said that when braking, the high-speed train would be able to generate about 25% of the power it would use to accele rate, and that power could be fed back to the Eskom grid. Gauteng public transport and roads and public works MEC Ignatius Jacobs said the implementation of the Gautrain project had been a success as it had created more that 24400 jobs.
