ONE of the largest recycling centres for untreated timber waste in the country was opened in Lowestoft yesterday. Jeld-Wen, based in Waveney Drive, is one of the UK’s leading windows, doors and stairs manufacturers, and also produces timber components for the joinery and furniture industries. In partnership with the Briquette and Pellet company the new recycling centre represents a 360 degree recycling solution that is part of a major drive to reduce Jeld-Wen’s carbon footprint and minimise the amount of waste that goes to landfill. The recycling plant will receive untreated timber from across the group and produce pellets that will provide fuel both for its own heating systems as well as delivering an environmental fuel supply chain for businesses and other organisations in the region. Jeld-Wen currently produces almost 10,000 tonnes of untreated wood waste a year from its factories in Lowestoft, Melton Mowbray, Sheffield and Penrith. Jeld-Wen is now looking to build relationships with other businesses that need to dispose of untreated wood waste or who are interested in using renewable wood pellets in their energy systems. read more
