In fact, Centennial Wireless, a Fort Wayne company that has spread to other parts of the country, is planning to go green and kick off a recycling campaign soon that will include TV spots and other advertising urging people to recycle their phones. The Allen County Waste Management District does not keep track of how many cell phones are recycled but does give residents options on its Web site as to where to recycle them. OmniSource and Foam Recycling of Fort Wayne, both of which can be found on the waste management agency's site, report low numbers of old cell phones. At the beginning of the year, the agency kicked off a campaign encouraging Americans to either recycle or donate their cell phones, partnering with many of the country's cell phone manufacturers and providers. Eshelman said many of his phones started trickling in about five years ago as phones switched from analog to digital, about the same time every man, woman and child seemed to get a cell phone, he said. read more
